Climbing and abseiling

An exhilarating activity, a sense of achievement

Learn to climb and abseil under expert tuition in some of the most stunning island scenery in Scotland. Enjoy breathtaking views across to Skye and the mainland as you climb a sea cliff or abseil down a rocky outcrop. Beginners will be taught essential skills on the sea cliffs below the ruins of 15th century Brochel Castle. You’ll learn about climbing equipment and safe mountain practices before tackling the descent by abseil to the base of the cliff. Not bad for a beginner!

If you’re rock hard you’ll progress to the rock faces and crags at Torran in the north end of Raasay. The heights and rocky outcrops and cliffs here are home to red deer and golden eagles. The cliffs are formed from Torridonian Sandstone and Lewisean Gneiss – some of the oldest rock in the world, and very challenging. No shortage of bouldering, single-pitch and multi-pitch routes on Raasay.

Getting started

“At the north end, you could be forgiven for thinking that you are the only living soul left on earth.”
