Getting here

Whatever route you choose and by whatever means, your journey to Raasay will take you through some spectacular scenery, getting you well and truly in the mood for your Raasay House experience.

We’ve got some great ideas on how to make the journey fly for the younger members of your party, and we’ve put together a playlist of music to complement the journey, for all ages and tastes.

AIR
With budget flights to Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness, it’s now even easier to travel to Raasay. Inverness is the closest airport and we can meet you and drive you the last 100 miles in one of our minibuses.

CAR
The journey by road from Inverness to Sconser (via the Skye Bridge) is typically 2.5 hours; from Glasgow or Edinburgh 5 hours.  Make sure your fuel tank is full before you leave the city as filling stations are few and far between in the Highlands.

TRAIN
Overnight sleeper trains from London go to Inverness and Fort William, with connections to Skye by two of the most scenic rail journeys in the world. From there it is an easy bus or taxi ride to the ferry at Sconser.

BUS
Regular bus services run from London and all major cities to Glasgow and Inverness (www.citylink.co.uk and www.nationalexpress.com). There are easy local bus connections from here to Sconser (www.rapsons.co.uk).

FERRY
The Raasay ferry, operated by Caledonian MacBrayne (www.calmac.co.uk), runs almost hourly in the summer, Monday to Saturday, with 2 ferries on Sunday. The crossing takes 20 minutes and there’s plenty of space to leave your car at Sconser if you don’t want to bring it across. See PDF for summer/winter ferry timetable.

BOAT
If you have your own boat, you are most welcome to moor it right in front of the house on one of the visitor moorings.

If you arrive outside normal ferry times, we can arrange for you to be collected from Sconser by fast boat.  Please let us know in advance if you’d like us to arrange this.
