You may have seen in the press that in the early hours of Sunday January 18th Raasay House suffered a terrible fire. Most of the inside of the house was destroyed. All that's left are the external walls and the west wing. Fortunately no one was hurt.
It's devastating for us and for the whole island. This is more than just a building, it's part of the community, and we all feel a great sense of personal loss.
It's especially upsetting as we were only weeks away from finishing an eighteen month long refurbishment project.
However, what's come out of this tragedy is a real sense of determination to rebuild, to save our beautiful house and re-launch the business.
It's going to take a while to rebuild the house but in the meantime we're going to to continue to offer outdoor activity holidays from the island's hotel, Borodale House. See News and Offers for more details on that as well as information on how you can contribute to the Phoenix Fund to safeguard the future of Raasay House. Part of our major re-launch in February 2009 was a brand new website and corporate identity. We're very excited and proud of the huge amount of work that's been done so we decided to launch the site anyway so that you can see what we'll be offering when we eventually reopen. We hope you like it.
Please keep in touch over the coming months – our blog will have regular updates on the project and the fundraising. With your support and help we can make sure that the magical experience Raasay House offers its visitors continues for many years to come.
