Walking and exploration
The best of Raasay, on foot, at your own pace
Walking on Raasay is a wonderful activity whatever the season or the weather, whether you’re looking for a 2km amble or a 20km hike.
For moderate walkers, there are plenty of marked walks all around the island, whether you want a forest, coastal or moorland route. Just pick up a map and a picnic lunch, and you’re all set.
For the more adventurous, there’s no shortage of hard walking. You could climb Dun Caan with its fabulous 360 degree views; go to the end of Calum’s Road and then walk across to Eilean Fladday or Eilean Tigh; or attempt the coastal walk down the east side of Raasay from Screapadail to Fearns.
Whatever your route there will be stunning scenery, superb flora and fascinating wildlife. Look out for golden eagles, red deer, and grouse on or above the land and otters and dolphins at sea.
We also offer challenging half day, full day and overnight expeditions for hardy visitors. You’ll learn basic map work, navigation and orientation, and environmental skills as well as doing some wildlife spotting along the way.
